Stunning Celtic Inspired Wedding Hairstyles
Planning an Irish wedding and looking for Celtic hair inspiration? Be inspired by this stunning range of styles, including a variety of braid styles, flower wreaths and a modern take on the Medieval look.

Braided Hair

Historically, Irish brides often wore their hair in braids with ribbon and lace woven through the braids. Braided hair is an ancient Irish symbol of feminine power and luck. If your hair is too short, then speak to your hair stylist about incorporating a hair piece to weave through your hair.

Flower Wreaths

Many traditional Irish brides wore a wreath of wildflowers in their hair rather than an elaborate veil. Lavender symbolises love and devotion and herbs represent the bride’s fidelity to her new husband. Wearing a flower wreath instead of a veil is particularly on trend at the moment. Go with either a statement wreath with large bold flowers like roses and daisies accented with greenery, or a fine wreath of sweet little wildflowers. If you don’t want a full crown, then go for a more subtle look by placing a few of your favourite flowers into your hair.

Keeping the flowers fresh and ensuring that the petals don’t get knocked off on your wedding day can be an issue, so think about getting a wreath made out of good quality silk flowers. This option is especially popular for brides with allergies.

Medieval Style

Be inspired by the Medieval look with long flowing hair and ornate headdresses and hair pieces. Try tucking a few of your favourite flowers into your hair or adding a few Celtic hair beads. Or, place a Celtic circlet upon your head. These styles create a romantic and elegant look. If your hair is too short, then speak to your hair stylist about incorporating a hair piece to weave through your hair.

This is a website specifically about the Republic of Ireland, so of course there’s no reference to Scotland!

What were some Common Men’s Irish Celtic hair styles? Did men braid their hair as well? I’m simply trying to sort fact from movie and story book fiction.
