You’ve finally arrived in Ireland, but now you need to navigate all of the tasks required to settle in to your new home. Here is a checklist to help you get through them so you can start enjoying your new life in Ireland.

You’ve Arrived
- Purchase a prepay SIM card which includes data until you are able to make other arrangements. Make sure your phone is SIM unlocked.
- If you are subject to immigration requirements, you will need to register at your local immigration registration office following your arrival in Ireland. Refer to the Garda webite to find your closest GNIB office.
- Take time to settle in to your new surroundings and explore. Visit local cafes and pubs and chat to the locals to get a feel for the place and find out helpful local advice such as the best areas to live.
- Check out property prices to establish which areas are in your budget. Use my guide to Irish housing, in particular how to rent accommodation in Ireland.
- Set up email alerts on the Irish property websites and contact local rental agents to register your interest.
- Schedule property viewings.
- Open a bank account if you haven’t done so before arriving.
- Arrange Irish health insurance if you require it and don’t already have it.
- Apply for your Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) if required.
- If you have children, finalise school and childcare arrangements as applicable. You may also need to purchase a new school uniform and supplies.
- Register with your local GP
- If you have pets, register with a local Veterinary Practice and become familiar with pet ownership in Ireland.
- If you are using public transport then get yourself a Leap Card.
- If you prefer to get around by bike and are living in one of Ireland’s major cities, then sign up for the city bike scheme.
- If you are importing a car into Ireland, then ensure you arrange the necessary registration and pay the vehicle taxes.
- If you are purchasing a car, then become familiar with the Irish requirements for owning a vehicle.

Setting Up Home and Settling Into Irish Life
- Move into your new accommodation.
- Notify your change of address both in Ireland and your home country. Set up a mail redirection service through the post office if required.
- Set up utilities and any relevant household insurances.
- Purchase household essentials required to set up your new home.

- When purchasing items online, ensure that the delivery address is your current address.

Tips:
