Ogham is an Early Medieval alphabet used to write the early Irish language. Ogham is considered to be one of oldest forms of writing, however, its origins remain a mystery. The only surviving evidence of this ancient language is on stones. It was also likely inscribed on sticks, stakes and trees, but due to time, these have not survived.
The word ogham refers only to the form of letters or script, while the letters themselves are known collectively as the Beith-luis-nin. There are 25 letters and each letter is represented by a dashes across a central solid line. There is actually a really cool online Ogham Translator which converts Latin characters to the Ogham alphabet.
After the 6th century CE, Old Irish was written with the Roman alphabet, and Ogham disappeared. In order to keep this beautiful writing alive, it is being used in various forms of art. This is a collection of Irish made Ogham inscribed items that would make beautiful gifts for yourself and others.
